The 505 is a nicely refined step up from the 500, and supports Adobe DRM - which means that Shari can check out ebooks from the library for free and read them on her reader. The 700 is new technology, isn't nearly as refined, and simply doesn't work as well. (Shari can fill in the blanks as to why I make this statement, since she's the one that actually uses the reader - I'm still a paper book guy.) Sony really dropped the ball on the 700. It looks nice on their site, and sounds great in print, but in person it's a big let down.
